Tackle it Tuesday: Setbacks, Comparison, and Perspective.

Welcome to Tackle It Tuesday, a social media series where an autistic employee at AAoM (yours truly) writes workplace tips to better cope with the stresses of a working world not built for neurodiversity.

While creating the latest entry for AAoM’s social platforms, I realized that social media alone isn’t the ideal archive for all the past Tackle It Tuesday entries, as it shares space with all the other important work AAoM does. So, this blog companion was born!

This Tackle it Tuesday is on setbacks, comparison, and perspective. In simpler terms, it’s a reminder to take a step back and give yourself some grace.

Tackle it Tuesday: Setbacks, Comparison, and Perspective While progress has been made in making the world more accessible, and some jobs work better for some neurotypes than others, the world at large was designed with a neurotypical person in mind. It's hard out there. The 9-5 labor model isn't accessible to many autistic or otherwise disabled people, and treating those who don't fit into that mold as defective is wrong.

Tackle it Tuesday: Setbacks, Comparison, and PerspectiveWhen talking about how autism and labor mix, you have to consider when they don't. As in, what if an autistic person has a hard time with, or is unable to hold down full time 9-5 employment?

Tackle it Tuesday: Setbacks, Comparison, and Perspective If you as an autistic person are unable to hold down a job, are unable to work 40 hour work weeks, are unable to find or take on a job in the first place, or otherwise have anxieties regarding labor and where you stand in society You are not alone. You are not a burden.
