Volunteers of America Veteran Services – Michigan

Description:

Provides assistance to Veterans in different areas including housing, employment and Supportive Services for Veterans Families (SSVF)

Volunteers of America Michigan has a wide range of vital social service programs throughout the state including:
Veterans Programs:
Volunteers of America Michigan is rebuilding lives, one person at a time. This is made possible with the help of volunteers, community leaders, partnerships with other organizations and foundation and corporate support.
Housing:
Volunteers of America Michigan is a proud provider of service-rich, affordable housing in Michigan. Currently, we have 688 units of affordable housing in our total portfolio (both existing and under construction), spanning the state. Our focus on the east side of Michigan has been on elderly and disabled housing. We have five independent living apartment buildings. All of these beautiful facilities are deeply subsidized and residents pay just 30% of their income for rent and utilities!
Children, Youth & Families:
Adopt A Family- matches families in need with individual and/or corporate sponsors who adopt them for the holidays, providing new clothes, toys and even a wonderful Christmas dinner to those who otherwise wouldn’t be able to celebrate due to the hardships of their financial situations.
Coats for Kids- Each November, Coats are collected at the Lansing Mall, Meridian Mall, Eastwood Towne Centre and Jackson Crossings. The coats are later distributed to children and adults in need.
Action Teams- a Youth Volunteer Initiative: Action Teams, composed of Major League baseball players and area high school students who are selected to be Team Captains, work together to inspire youth to get involved in Volunteers of America programs. The Action Team also delivers an important message to their peers from Major Leaguers — volunteering is cool, fun and personally rewarding!
Vehicle Donations & Sales:
Volunteers of America Michigan accepts donations of cars, trucks, boats, RV’s and motorcycles. Proceeds from the sale of donated vehicles go to support our charitable work. Many donors are able to qualify for a tax deduction with this gift.
Thrift Stores:
The Volunteers of America Michigan Thrift Stores collect donated items and sell them to the public. Proceeds from the sale of donated items go to fund the vital social services offered by Volunteers of America Michigan.
