Mindfullness

Description:

Individual Therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is considered the treatment of choice for adult eating disorders and is often combined with other treatment modalities. CBT focuses on the core beliefs, feelings and behaviors that maintain the eating disorder such as fear of weight gain, impaired body image and faulty beliefs about food. CBT also addresses personality characteristics that can reinforce the eating disorder. Many tools and techniques will be used to address faulty cognitions and develop healthier and more flexible beliefs about food, eating and body image. In addition to CBT, our therapists also integrate aspects mindfulness, meditation, mindful self-compassion, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and intuitive eating into their work.
Family Based Therapy for Adolescents
Some older adolescents do well with CBT, but many with Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa benefit from a Family Based Treatment Approach (FBT). FBT involves the entire family working with the therapist to take charge of re-feeding their child and working toward health.
Community Meal Support (CMS)
Community Meal Support is an effective, professionally led therapeutic meal experience designed to teach you meal planning and accountability-based eating in a structured environment. CMS will expose you to meals, food behaviors and social eating patterns that you will need to achieve a full recovery from your eating disorder. Post meal processing sessions are conducted after each meal to provide additional support and teach ongoing skills necessary for recovery.
Recovery Services
Mindfullness provides recovery services  for individuals affected by an eating disorder. As a clinical psychologist specializing in eating disorders, I know how complicated these illnesses are. We hear the words “anorexia,” “bulimia,” and “binge eating” thrown around in casual conversation all the time. Yet there is nothing casual about these illnesses. They deserve to be taken seriously and treated appropriately. Mindfullness provides the following services to help individuals and families affected by an eating disorder:
  • Individual psychotherapy (Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge Eating Disorder, depression, anxiety and relationship issues),
  • Family Based treatment for Adolescents (Anorexia, Bulimia)
  • Break the Cycle: an innovative 6 week program for families to help children/adolescents experiencing loss of control or binge eating
  • Community support forums via blog posts
  • Educational and prevention programs for hospitals, universities, schools, sororities and other interested organizations
  • Professional supervision and group trainings for clinicians interested in obtaining training to treat eating disorders
True recovery from an eating disorder and a life free from food and weight preoccupation is possible.
In addition to eating disorder work, I provide marital therapy and family therapy. I work with individuals experiencing a range of issues including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, grief and trauma.
