Dr. Norman Alessi

Description:

Evaluations
Evaluations are an iterative process based on response to previous treatment, testing, observations by family and other professionals, and the response to current treatment.
Evaluations vary a great deal from clinician to clinician depending on their training and experience; as well as the context in which they are performing an evaluation.
Evaluations by Dr. Alessi typically begin with a short telephone conversation to gain a sense of the needs of the patient before first appointment will be made. Dr. Alessi will also request that any materials that might help him better understand the patient and how to best serve them. These materials might include medical records, previous evaluations, and other official reports. This said, your first appointment is not dependent on Dr. Alessi’s acquiring these materials as it can take weeks or even months in certain cases.
You or you and or your child will be seen over a zoom/ facetime connection at the first time available. The first session will take 2 hours. In many complicated cases this may not be enough and further visits with school or the home or the use of a series of evaluation instruments will be required. Therefore after the first session there will be a discussion of what, if any, diagnostic conditions might exist.  Based on these, therapeutic interventions will be suggested.
Therapeutics
Treatment from psychiatrists have come to be  thought of as solely dealing with medications.  If only that were the case.  Often cases are referred for medications where the correct diagnoses have not been made leading a patient to not be receiving the correct treatment. Subsequently, Dr. Alessi first seeks to identify any and all mental health conditions present so he can begin the process of case conceptualization.*
*A collective understanding of the client’s problems
