Clinical Psychology Services PLLC

Description:

Neuropsychological Evaluations
A neuropsychological evaluation is an assessment of the brain’s functioning, which can yield information about the structure and functionality of the brain. It can provide information related to attention, memory, executive functioning, spatial ability, and language functioning. The assessment can allow for a baseline for cognitive functioning or determine if improvements have occurred. The neuropsychological evaluation involves the administration of tests and the gathering of background information.

Psychological Assessments
Psychological assessment is a process of testing that uses a combination of techniques to help arrive at some hypotheses about a person and their behavior, personality and capabilities. Psychological assessment is also referred to as psychological testing, or performing a psychological battery on a person. Psychological testing is nearly always performed by a licensed psychologist, or a psychology trainee (such as an intern). Psychologists are the only profession that is expertly trained to perform and interpret psychological tests.

Bariatric Pre-Surgical Evaluations
When a surgeon assesses patients for bariatric surgery, he/she ascertains their general health, with the idea of identifying those for whom surgery is too risky and those who have conditions that need to be treated, stabilized, or managed for surgery to be worth its risk. Behavioral health specialists can no more “predict” a particular psychological outcome than the physician can “predict” a surgical or medical complication. We can, however, via the pre-operative behavioral health assessment, identify psychosocial risk factors and make recommendations to both the client and surgical group that are aimed at facilitating the best possible outcome for the patient.
Bariatric Pre-Surgical Services
Dr. Ajayi-Nabors assesses a client’s personality and readiness for bariatric surgery. Evaluation is approximately two hours, consisting of psychological testing and a one-hour interview.
Bariatric Support Groups
Therapeutic Bariatric Group
Pre, Post and Regainer Bariatric Surgery Group
This is a small group of 8 to 9 individuals designed to provide an opportunity to work through feelings about weight loss and the bariatric surgery experience. An environment to develop trusting and supportive relationships is key to the success of each group member. Therapeutic bariatric group helps individuals discover that others truly understand their feelings and challenges.
