On Board with Autism Offers Individuals with Autism and Their Families Test “Flight”

Delta Air Lines in  Detroit along with Wayne County Airport Authority and Autism Alliance of Michigan hosted an “On Board with Autism” event on Saturday, October 21st.  About 90 children and family members checked in at the Delta ticket counter and proceeded through the security check point with the help of TSA Cares. Families arrived at gate A38 where all volunteers,  flight attendants and pilots interacted with the children and their families and passed out coloring books and other small gifts. Everyone boarded the flight for an on-time departure at 11:30am. Once everyone was seated, the pilots and flight attendants made their announcements. A great beverage and snack service was served by our flight attendants as well. The children were able to go into the cockpit and ask questions as well.

It was a great experience for the children and their families. One parent said that now that their child is familiar with the travel experience, they are ready to make travel plans and that Delta is their Air Line of choice. It was a great experience for all involved. We look forward to our next event in April during Autism Awareness month.

A special thank you to Delta and Wayne County Airport Authority for all of their support on this important event.
