In order to reach our goals for state advocacy in areas related to autism special education, employment, awareness, safety, and inclusion, AAoM relies heavily on statewide and national statistics relevant to autism. Research Volunteers should be skilled at internet and database searches, and represent AAoM professionally when reaching out to state agencies and departments to gather information. Research Volunteers may be asked to collect information from a variety of fields including clinical, financial, policy, and safety, among others. Additionally, these volunteers should possess the skills to format the results of their investigations to be easily shared with the AAoM programs and stakeholders. Time requirement: As Needed.
MiNavigator Benchmarking Committee
In order to reach our goals for state advocacy in areas related to autism special education, employment, awareness, safety, and inclusion, AAoM relies heavily on statewide and national statistics relevant to autism. AAoM Navigation Specialists regularly obtain information directly from providers around the state on wait time for assessments and treatments, caseload size, patient ages, severities, and insurances that are accepted by providers. This is time consuming work that takes away from Navigators time with families. MiNavigator Benchmarking Volunteers will be provided with lists of provider resources and integral information to collect from providers. Volunteers will be asked to search information available on web sites as well as to represent AAoM professionally as they reach out to providers collect data. Time requirement: As Needed.
Community Resources Committee
AAoM works to keep our stakeholders and families informed of activities across the state of Michigan. Our AAoM web site houses a Community Calendar that we hope makes families feel supported through the many support groups, social skills groups, summer and therapy camps, and fun and educational events and conferences across the state. Other providers are able to upload their information onto the site; however they often require assistance. AAoM staff spend time entering information, searching web sites, calendars, and incoming mail to AAoM for opportunities for families and professionals to attend these events. Community Resources Volunteers would be trained to enter event information and asked to communicate professionally with community groups and providers to gather information, and accurately reflect on the calendar. Time requirement: As Needed.
AAoM Event Volunteer
AAoM offers a wide variety of events- from fun family and community events, to professional and programmatic events and conferences. While AAoM has a large footprint and offers events and services across the state of Michigan, we also have a small staff body and rely on Event Volunteers to assist and make these events run smoothly. Event Volunteers may attend an event in the community partnered with a Program Specialist or Navigator to meet and increase awareness, or in large groups of volunteers to support community and fundraising events. Event Volunteers should be prepared to intersect with all walks of life, individuals of all ages, income levels, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, and needs. They should interact easily and authentically with families and stakeholders to support and educate them about AAoM and supports and services. Time requirement: As Needed.
