Virtual Sensory-Friendly Jim Henson Program
June 23 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm EDTFree
Join us virtually as The Henry Ford presents a free program designed for individuals with autism spectrum disorder or sensory processing disorder and their family members or caregivers.
Our program is inspired by “The Jim Henson Exhibition: Imagination Unlimited,” which opened this month inside Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation. This exhibit explores Jim Henson’s groundbreaking work for film and television and his transformative impact on culture. Throughout a singular career spanning four decades, Henson created iconic puppet characters and stories for film and television that left an indelible mark on popular culture. With his gently subversive humor, restless curiosity, and innovative approach to puppetry, Henson built the Muppets into an enduring international brand, contributed beloved puppet characters to Sesame Street, and made movies that applied his vivid imagination to stories for the big screen.
During this virtual program, participants will learn about the work of Jim Henson, take part in a movement activity and game, and create their own Jim-Henson-style puppet.
The program will be held virtually via Zoom and instructions to join as well as a visual schedule will be sent out to all registered participants before the program. Please note that participants can choose to have their cameras on Zoom turned on or off during the program.
Space is limited and registration is required. By attending this virtual program, you also have the choice to receive complimentary tickets (up to six per family) to visit Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation and see The Jim Henson Exhibition: Imagination Unlimited in person at any time before it leaves on September 6, 2021. If you are interested in tickets, please make sure to specify this in the registration information below and to provide your name and address so that we can mail the tickets to you. (Please note that this exhibit is included with museum admission or membership.)
This program is made possible in part by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (Grant MA-245773-OMS-20).
