Link between Parenting stress and child communication- Research Opportunity

We are recruiting parents of children with autism spectrum disorder that communicate with less than 30 functional works. The study is designed to understand the relationship between parenting stress and their child’s communication skills. Participation will include Zoom interview, anticipated to be up to 4 hours long.

To be eligible to participate:
– Parents must be between the age of 20 and 45 years
-Must be the primary caregiver of a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder
– Children must be between the age of 4 and 10 years (children will not be required to participate)
– Children must speak less than 30 functional words
– Parents must live in any of the 11 Midwestern states (IA, IL, IN, KS, MI, MN, MO, NE, ND, SD, OH, or WI)

Functional words are those that are used to communicate needs and wants independently, spontaneously, and without prompts. Repetition, imitation, singing, or echolalia does not count as functional speech.
