A cataract is a clouding and loss of transparency of the clear lens in the eye. Most cataracts are related to aging. As one ages, chemical changes occur in the clear lens, making it less transparent. Many people are unaware they even have cataracts because the changes in their vision are so gradual. When the lens gets cloudy enough to obstruct vision cataract surgery is necessary to restore vision. Glasses nor contact lenses will sharpen vision if a cataract is present. Cataract surgery is the most common surgical procedure in the United States with millions of surgeries performed each year.
At Simone Eye Center located in Macomb Township and Warren, we’ve performed thousands of laser vision correction procedures including LASIK, LASEK, and PRK. For an explanation of these procedures, click on the procedure of your interest.

Many people only visit an eye doctor when problems occur, but Simone Eye Center recommends a complete eye exam on a regular basis as a part of your routine medical care. This will depend on your age, health, ethnicity, and family history. If changes in your vision or other symptoms occur between visits, please notify Simone Eye Center immediately as early detection and treatment of problems can help prevent vision loss.
At Simone Eye Center, an eye examination will consist of a thorough evaluation of your ocular health and vision. This usually includes refraction, (an evaluation of your need for contact lenses or glasses) and a complete dilated eye exam. We will screen for common conditions such as glaucoma, dry eye, macular degeneration, and cataracts, as well as retinal changes such as those associated with diabetes and high blood pressure. A review of your symptoms and medical history will be considered along with the findings of your eye examination. We will discuss the results with you, and communicate with your primary care physician or other doctors as needed.
A comprehensive eye evaluation will usually take approximately 90 minutes, so please be sure to allow enough time for your visit with us. We look forward to serving you and your eye care needs.
