Great Start Collaborative – Marquette-Alger
Description:
The first eight years of a child’s life are a time of tremendous opportunity. Early years are a strong predicator of later academic and life success. Young children’s early experiences and environments directly impact brain development. Everything children see, every word they hear, everything they do…from their first breath, shapes the rapidly developing architecture of their brains. The foundation for language, social behavior, problem solving ability and emotional health will be mostly created…or not…by the time children enter kindergarten.
To be successful in school and in life, young children must grow up in an environment that develops self-confidence, positive social and emotional skills, and a love for learning.
Great Start, Great Investment, Great Future: The Plan for Early Learning and Development in Michigan.
The Marquette-Alger Great Start Collaborative is a network of parents, educators, service providers, agencies and community leaders invested in maintaining local quality early childhood programs, services and supports. Our vision for our communities is that all children are born healthy; are developmentally on track; ready to succeed in school; and reading proficiently.
To help drive our work, we seek parental input through the Great Start Parent Coalition. Check out the GSPC on facebook by clicking HERE .
