With one in every 36 children being autistic, autism touches every community in Michigan. Unfortunately, not all communities have adequate support for these children.
Did you know that there are service deserts across the state, places where families have limited or no access to health care? Without access, autistic children:
…May fall behind in school because they aren’t given the right support to learn.
…May feel isolated or depressed because they struggle with social skills and cues.
…May act out or even hurt themselves or others because they aren’t understood.
But if kids are diagnosed early and get access to services sooner, they have a better chance at great outcomes.
And every child in Michigan deserves that chance. That’s why this holiday season, we are launching the “Cover the Mitten” campaign.
Using a data-driven approach, we’ve identified the underserved areas in Michigan that need our help the most. We are excited to launch, but we need your help.
