The Fowler Center is situated on over 200-acres in Mayville, Michigan, in the thumb of the state. Our picturesque setting on beautiful Harmon Lake features meadows, forests and a lakefront – plenty of opportunities for exploration and fun.
The Fowler Center is accredited by the American Camp Association and also licensed as an Adult Foster Care Camp and a Children’s Camp by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. These agencies monitor the quality of the site, programs, staff, and administration.
We offer year-round programming for children, teens and adults. Emphasis is placed on the ability of each camper to participate in camping experiences according to his or her physical, cognitive, and psychological abilities. A concerted effort is made to remove any possible barriers and to create a secure, positive, and reinforcing environment.
All of our programs are designed to meet the physical, social, intellectual, emotional, and motivational needs of our campers. We have a large, central dining hall and activity center where campers congregate for group dining, special events, and important social interaction. Surrounding this facility are 4 rustic cabins, which provide group living arrangements during residential sessions and an opportunity for campers to develop true friendships. Our cabins sleep 16 with a shared bathroom in-between each room of 8 campers. Our cabins are heated and in 2010 air conditioners were added to the four main cabins. We also have 2 newer style ranch cabins that sleep 8 campers each.
Throughout the grounds of The Fowler Center are numerous activity areas designed with our campers in mind. This includes a central outdoor gathering spot for traditional campfires, camp songs, and flag raising ceremonies. It also includes a vegetable garden that campers tend, an accessible high ropes challenge course, an accessible tree house, an accessible rock climbing wall, and platforms for outdoor camping. We’re situated on a beautiful lake for water activities including swimming and boating. Additional structures at the camp include our Equestrian Center, built in 2006, for therapeutic riding.
