Application for Navigating Healthcare training for parents with a child with epilepsy (seizures).
Parents and caregivers have an important role in getting the best medical care for their child. It can be especially challenging when your child has epilepsy and/or other special health care needs. The Michigan Pediatric Epilepsy Project, in partnership with Michigan Family to Family Health Information Center and the Family Center for Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs, is offering a virtual training on Sept 14th AND Sept 15th from 9:30 am – 12:30 pm.
This training is intended to help you learn some ways to navigate medical care for your child. Your child may have more than one medical condition. Your child may have to see many different healthcare providers. This can be challenging.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this training is to make navigating the healthcare system easier when you have a child with epilepsy (seizures).
To be ELIGIBLE to attend you must:
– Be the parent (biological, foster, step, kinship or adoptive) or legal guardian of a child or youth (birth – age 18) with epilepsy (seizures) and be a resident of Michigan.
– Be able to attend the full training on Sept 14th AND Sept 15th from 9:30 am – 12:30 pm on both days.
– Be willing to complete a demographic survey during registration before you attend the training, as well as a follow up survey immediately at the end of each of the training days while you are still engaged with the facilitation team online. You only need to respond to questions you feel comfortable answering.
There is no cost to you for this training. You will receive a $100 stipend after the training to cover your time and offset any childcare costs you may have. You MUST attend both days to receive the stipend. The stipend will be distributed as a Visa e-gift card delivered via email or text. You will be able to choose your preferred method of how the stipend will be distributed in the registration questions below.
So, what is an e-Gift card?
• A Visa e-gift card link will be sent to you within 3 days of completing both training days. The link will be distributed either by email to your inbox or text message to your phone. You will be able to use the e-gift card online by typing in the gift card number or in-person in stores by showing the gift card on your phone.
The training will be held virtually through Microsoft Teams (a virtual meeting platform similar to Zoom) on a PC, tablet or smartphone. An internet connection is required and a camera preferred, or you can download the Teams app to your tablet or smartphone. You will receive the meeting link with your confirmation email for the training. We will mail you the materials you will need to participate during the training.
Space in the training is limited and completion of this registration process is not a guarantee you will attend the training.
