The Autism Alliance of Michigan is co-hosting a local ‘Affinity Group’ meeting to discuss the “Section 298 Initiative”, that is, the potential for privatization of community mental health services.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHHS) is asking people with mental illness, emotional disorder, developmental or intellectual disablity, or substance use disorder, and their family members, what supports and services they need or want.
This is a follow-up to Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley’s workgroup on the Section 298 boilerpoint that was in the Governor Rick Snyder’s budget recommending privatizing behavioral health services. The boilerpoint was changed, but MDHHS is reporting to legislators suggestions for improving the service system.
To collect information, a survey was developed. MDHHS is asking concerned agencies to gather feedback.

Meeting will take place in Room C104 at the Wayne County Community College District – Western Campus in Belleville.
