The Autism Alliance of Michigan (AAoM) is seeking reviews regarding the autism-friendliness of businesses for a new website called MiAutism. Parents, autism caregivers, and business owners can go to www.submit.miautism.com to submit reviews for businesses in three categories: restaurants, hair salons, and places of recreation (parks, shopping malls, museums, and other public spaces).
Reviewers will rate the “sights,” “sounds,” and accommodation of staff at businesses in Southeast Michigan to assess their suitability for people with autism. Submissions will be checked for appropriateness, then approved for the MiAutism site launching in June 2014. AAoM is partnering with Detroit Labs to build this web resource that will allow families and caregivers of children affected by autism to research and review businesses in the state.
“Our goal is help families navigate to the best options for their children or loved ones. We also feel this benefits businesses greatly by helping them understand the Autism community better,” said AAoM President and CEO Colleen Allen, Ph.D.
MiAutism.com will serve Southeast Michigan, with plans to include the entire state in the future.
